In this issue you will find a wealth of information. In the President’s offering, George talks about mediation as a retirement activity and the need for mandatory mediation in our state. George also shares with us, information of the Heartland Regional Conference next spring. On the second page you will find information about IAM’s fall conference with Natalie Fluey, a law professor at Marquette University. Page 2 will also give you some information on a workshop give by A.M. Fink presented on “Envy Free Property Division” in Kansas City.

Beginning on page one, Steve Sovern will talk about the value being left on the table of settled family cases. Steve talks about how mediation has cut the incidents of modification and court intervention in modifications but that we as mediators may be missing items of importance. Steve uses both research, his years of mediation practice, and the law to make his points more believable.

On page 5 Steve Schodde talks about our responsibilities as mediators in the Mediators Tip. Steve always provides us with good advice to think about and try to improve our practices as mediators. In this issue he talks about the ways we, as mediators, set the mood of the session for the participants and their lawyers. You will also find information about deadlines, trainings, IAM Board Members and the various committees you might be interested in participating in and adding your voice to YOUR organization.
